Adult and Community Learning goes much further than school. Learning is not just about formal lessons; learning makes a vital contribution to the development of communities and supports families and individuals throughout their lives.  Taking part in a learning activity develops confidence and self esteem and leads to a greater involvement in work and community activities.

The Isle of Wight Council supports the development of Adult and Community Learning opportunities on the Isle of Wight.  We support the community by providing wider opportunities for learning that can help develop people’s knowledge, understanding and skills throughout their lives.

We provide opportunities for 2200 learners each year through the following strands: -

  • The Family Learning Service delivered through the East Cowes Family Learning Centre, nine primary schools and a Share Programme.
  • A non accredited leisure programme delivered by the Isle of Wight College Adult Education
  • Social inclusion, widening participation and regeneration programmes using a variety of key providers and benefiting from excellent partnership working
