This course is based on the East Cowes and West Cowes local heritage trail published by the Island2000 Trust. The trail focuses on the industrial heritage of this area of the Island and is called the 'Boat Trail'. Pictures depicting knots have been sunk into pavements and attached to important buildings to show the route of the boat trail in both East Cowes and West Cowes. Both routes join up across the floating bridge.
Two family friendly guide books have been developed to accompany the offical boat trail and are aimed at families with children at Key Stage 1 (age 5-7) and Key Stage 2 (age 7-11). Each book contains quiz questions and activities to encourage families to enjoy the trail together and take a greater interest in their local community and its heritage. This trail was piloted with all 260 pupils from East Cowes Primary School in early 2005. It was a very enjoyable experience, particularly the exercise which involved making a rope out of kitchen roll!
